The American Devon Cattle Association (ADCA) strengthened the Embryo Transfer (ET) registration protocols at its recent annual meeting in Hopewell, New Jersey on September 9, 2011 when they voted to adopt the use of the International Embryo Transfer Society (IETS) forms as an additional requirement to provide more complete record keeping of ET flushes which will help eliminate any possible confusion or loss of pertinent data in the registration of ET offspring.
The new procedures include:
- The use of IETS forms A, B, and C. (see www.iets.org to view forms)
- As of January 1, 2012 all Devon females flushed with ET procedures shall have the proper IETS forms completed by the person or organization performing the embryo collection, implantation, freezing and/or implantation of prior frozen embryos. These forms are to be sent to the Associated Registry within 60 days of the embryo transplant procedure.
The new requirements are in addition to the existing ADCA regulations addressing registration of offspring resulting from ET procedures:
- The donor dam and sire of the embryos must be DNA tested.
- The resulting offspring shall be DNA tested at the time of application for registration.
Currently the University of California Davis performs the DNA testing and parent verification.
